On May 25, 2020, Minneapolis Police officers killed George Floyd, an unarmed Black man. In response, Americans took to the streets. Floyd's death — coming shortly after the shooting of Ahmaud Arbery in Georgia and Breonna Taylor in Kentucky — was recorded in a gruesome video showing officer Derek Chauvin kneeling on his neck for 8 minutes, and 46 seconds. Some of his last words, "I cant breathe", became the rallying cry that would echo throughout American cities for more than a month after his passing. These photos depict protests in the San Francisco Bay Area against racism, police brutality, and structural inequality.
